Buying used parts, supplies and whole-shop packages
By the Buckets of Ink equipment team · Updated October 1, 2026 · Tempe, Arizona
Parts and supplies keep machines running, and whole-shop packages can set up a complete department in one deal. Each needs a slightly different check.
Parts
- Match the exact part to your machine's model and year, not just the brand.
- For printheads, ask whether they are new and sealed or used, and how they were stored.
- For platens, frames and jacket clamps, confirm they fit your press or machine.
Supplies
- Check expiry dates on inks, emulsion and chemicals.
- Ask how they were stored: heat and freezing ruin many inks and emulsions.
- Confirm quantities and roll widths for film, paper and vinyl.
Whole-shop packages
A package can be a great deal, but look at each machine on its own as well. Packages on Buckets of Ink list every machine's individual value next to the package price, so you can see the discount.
- Inspect every machine in the package using the guides for its process.
- Ask whether you can buy single machines if you only need some of them.
- Plan freight and rigging for the whole package before you commit.
Before you pay for any used machine
- See it run under load, not just power on. Ask the seller for a video of a real job if you can't visit.
- Ask for age, hours or print/stitch count, and any service records or receipts for replaced parts.
- Confirm parts and service are still available for that model.
- Check the power it needs (voltage, phase, amps) against what your shop has, and price any electrical work.
- Plan rigging, crating and freight before you buy. Heavy machines may need a forklift or liftgate at both ends.
- Pay through escrow so the money is only released after you've inspected the machine.
