Buying a used UV printer

By the Buckets of Ink equipment team · Updated October 1, 2026 · Tempe, Arizona

UV printers print and cure in one pass on rigid items, rolls and promotional products. Inspection centres on the heads, the UV lamps and the bed or roll system.

Heads, inks and lamps

  • Ask for a same-day nozzle check on every channel, including white and varnish if fitted.
  • Ask which printheads it uses and the age of the UV lamps or LED curing.
  • Check the ink configuration (CMYK, white, gloss or varnish) matches your work.

Bed, height and accessories

  • Measure the bed size and the maximum object height.
  • Ask about a rotary attachment for cups and bottles, and any jigs or fixtures.
  • Check the vacuum table holds media flat across the bed.

Software

Ask which RIP it runs and whether the licence transfers.

Before you pay for any used machine

  • See it run under load, not just power on. Ask the seller for a video of a real job if you can't visit.
  • Ask for age, hours or print/stitch count, and any service records or receipts for replaced parts.
  • Confirm parts and service are still available for that model.
  • Check the power it needs (voltage, phase, amps) against what your shop has, and price any electrical work.
  • Plan rigging, crating and freight before you buy. Heavy machines may need a forklift or liftgate at both ends.
  • Pay through escrow so the money is only released after you've inspected the machine.
